Eggertspiele has announced Era: Medieval Age, a new game from designer Matt Leacock.  Not only is Era being pitched as a spiritual successor to Roll Through the Ages, but also, the first roll-and-build game.

In Era, players will be using three-dimensional pieces (churches, farms, mills, castle walls, etc.) to build up medieval towns on their personal boards.  The dice represent different classes of medieval society.

“Era: Medieval Age is made even more challenging as players interact with each other in ways such as extortion, scorched earth, and, of course, disease!”

The other piece of the announcement is that Era: Medieval Age marks the start of a series of roll-and-build games from Matt Leacock and Eggertspiele.  No specifics were provided about other games, but Era is planned to debut at Gen Con later this year.

Era: Medieval Age is designed for 1 to 4 players, ages 12 and up.

Euro Game fans rejoice, for publisher Eggertspiele, artist Chris Quilliams, and designer extraordinaire Alexander Pfister (Great Western Trail, Mombasa, Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King) have announced their new game for Essen Spiel 2018, Blackout: Hong Kong. In Blackout, 1-4 players work to restore order from chaos in a future Hong Kong, where the electrical grid has been massively overstressed to the point of failure. Players start by rolling dice to randomly select which 3 of the 6 resources in the game will be available for the round. Next, players select 3 (or 4 with an upgrade) cards, which are placed facedown on their player board. These cards are revealed, and can place control cubes on the board, gain resources, spend resources, give abilities, or provide objectives. Objective cards are then scored, after which players can scout neighboring territories. Scouting is dangerous work, and gives an alternative way to collect needed resources, but players need to assemble cards from their hand to form a team with the required qualifications for the scouting token. Regardless of the outcome, one of the team will be injured, and will end up in the hospital, taking that card out of action. After scouting, players can use money to purchase new cards from face-up lines next to the board. Finally, in clean up, extra cards are discarded from the side of the board, and excess food and water are sold for money. Players score points for territories they control, and can refresh their hand of cards if they have 4 or less. When refreshing, players take back into hand whichever pile on their board is the largest. At the end of the game, money converts into points, and most total points takes the victory. Blackout can be played traditionally, solo, or as a 5 chapter campaign.

Long out of print Speil des Jahres winner Camel Up (2014) is coming out with a new edition from Eggertspiele, due out at Essen Spiel 2018 (October 25-28). Camel Up (and there is no controversy around the name of the new edition, it is decidedly Camel UP) is the light betting game by Steffen Bogen centering around racing camels. The colored camels move haphazardly with the roll of their corresponding dice, carrying competitors in the same space along for a ride. The new edition adds Rogue Camels to the mix, strange racers who run the wrong direction around the track, and can also carry your favorites backwards. Eggertspiele is announcing their plans for an expansion to the ever popular game Heaven & Ale. The game has been nominated for many awards in the past 6 months to include: Kennerspiel des Jahres, Golden Geek (Strategy), Meeple’s Choice, and Goblin Magnifico. Manage your Monasteries delivery route and get your brews into the hands of your taverns even more efficiently with an all new board and more strategic options for players. More information will be available in the coming weeks and it scheduled for release in Spring/Summer of 2019.

Eggertspiele has announced a new title for their catalog – Coimbra.  Coimbra is designed by Virginio Gigli and Flaminia Brasini and is illustrated by Chris Quilliams.  Coimbra is a set in the Portuguese city with the same name during the Age of Discovery (15th – 16th century).

As one of Coimbra’s oldest houses, your role is to seek prestige with the monasteries, universities, and fund explorations.  To do this, player’s will draft dice each round that can be used in multiple ways and taking dice can affect turn order, income, and the cost of bribery .  Whoever can optimize the use of the dice and the constant change of synergy with the monasteries, universities, and expeditions will be the winner.

Coimbra is a designed for 2-4 players and takes approximately 60-90 minutes.  Coimbra pre-orders will open April 16, 2018 and it will be released on August 2, 2018 at GenCon.

Eggertspiele has announced, on Facebook, the next expansion for the highly rated game Great Western Trail.  This expansion, called Rails to the North, adds a railroad system to the game, now giving you options to sell and trade with cities across the country.  But, with the expanded market comes additional competition, so you will need to endear yourself to the frontiersmen by helping set up towns and add new branches to the railroad.  There will also be an additional piece added to the player board adding more strategic choices to the game along with be station masters and more private buildings for you to build.  So if you have the base game and are looking for more, be on the lookout for this expansion at Origins this year, and you can check out the Eggertspiele Facebook page for more information.

Eggertspiele has released a press release unveiling its new logo in the wake of being acquired by Plan B Games. Now inside Plan B Games Europe, Eggertspiele will be branding themselves as a publisher of “medium to heavy complexity European strategy games”. As part of their rebranding, Eggertspiele have updated their fox mascot Jeffrey into a more contemporary, cleaner design. Eggertspiele is the German publishing house behind such modern classics as Mombasa, Camel Up, Village and Great Western Trail.

Heaven and Ale from Michael Kiesling and Andreas Schmidt is a new 2-4 player game which takes place in a monastery, pitting players in fierce competition to see who can brew the best beer. Players need to keep their cloister garden fertile and well manned, in order to collect enough resources to fill their barrels.

Michael Kiesling has also teamed up with his long time partner Wolfgang Kramer to bring Reworld, a card and tile game set in a terraforming future. 2-4 Players claim tiles from the board, and the values of neighboring claimed tiles allow the play of specific numbered cards from their hand. Players score fir picking up terrabots, developing their cities, deploying satellites, and for meeting goals set at the start of the game. Rounds end once all players have emptied their hands of cards, and a game lasts five rounds.

Look for both these games from Eggertspiele in October 2017.
