As announced by Tom on this week’s Board Game Breakfast, tickets for Dice Tower Con 2018 are on sale now.  Next year’s convention will happen over 5 days from July 4th to 8th, that’s over 100 hours of continuous gaming goodness.  One thing to note about this convention is that it is definitely a playing convention, meaning there are tons and tons of tables set up for everyone to be gaming from dawn until dusk.  Not to mention the game library is excellent with many of the hottest games at that time and lots of classics to choose from.  There will also be other things happening like panels, mega games, tournaments, the flea market, exhibitors, and more.  Check out the Dice Tower Con website for more information and to get your tickets and hotel reservations for this amazing convention.

Essen is THE convention for board gamers to grab the latest and greatest when it comes to their favorite hobby.  But one thing is for sure, Essen it not a playing convention like your Dice Tower Convention or GenCon, so Pegasus Spiele is offering the chance to have a game night right at the fair.  Starting now, you can purchase tickets for Thursday the 26th and Friday the 27th to be able to hang out at the Pegasus Spiele booth after the hall has closed, and play games with them into the wee hours of the night.  And just like your game nights at home, food and drinks will be offered for no additional charge to keep you going.  You can find out more on the event’s Facebook event page, and once you purchase a ticket, you can rest easy knowing you have some game time already scheduled to play all the amazing new releases.

The winner’s of this round of Dice Tower Awards were announced this last week at Dice Tower Con, recorded live for YouTube as well. The nominees were selected by a panel of roughly 100 people, with voting shortly after managed by Jason Levine. A hearty thanks to everyone who participated. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, which made for a fantastic list of games who all deserved the award, but of course there can be only one victor in each category. The Dice Tower Convention recently announced they were down to less than 100 tickets available for attendees. The Orlando-based convention happens July 5th-9th this year and is the fifth iteration of the event. Featuring Guests of Honor Ignacy Trzewiczek and Eric Lang, the show promises five non-stop days of gaming and is geared for a more laid-back, family-friendly experience.
Visit the website for more information, or register now before tickets are all gone

Dice Tower Con has just launched it’s brand new website for the sixth year of the convention.  The new website offers loads more information and links to help you know what to expect from the convention and how to take full advantage of it.  You will see info like both Eric Lang and Ignacy Trzewiczek being special guests of honor at this year’s convention, an event schedule for the convention, and even a list of the games in the library.  Also as the time for the convention draws closer you will start to see links appear for things like the flea market and the math trade that happens each year at the convention.  Needless to say, the new site is a nice upgrade over the previous site so be sure to take a look, and if you hurry you might be able to get a ticket to the convention if you don’t already have one as there are still a few left.

viking on board

Vikings on Board is a new family weight worker-placement game from Blue Orange Games coming in August.  In Vikings on Board you are trying to get the most points by obtaining goods from ships or betting on the clan who gets a majority on the ship.  On a typical turn you can place your worker on several spots to do different things like take the first player marker, put goods on a ship, rearrange ship segments, adjust prices in the market, or place a bet on a ship.  The interesting one in the bunch is rearranging ship segments because each segment has colored shields on it that match the player colors.  So when a ship is scored, the player with a majority of their color gets to pull off goods first and add it to their score pile.  At the same time, people who bet on the clan who got majority on that ship get to take their bet and add it to their own score pile.  At the end of the game you will score won bets and the goods based on their price on the market, so you have to adjust prices to maximize your points.  The player with the most points at the end is the winner.

viking on board comp

This was being demo’d at Dice Tower Con a couple weeks ago and will be demo’d again at Gen Con in August so you can try it out.  The retail release of the game is in August as well so you will be able to find it on store shelves soon after.  You can find out more about the game on Blue Orange Games’ website.

The 2015 Dice Tower Awards winners were announced at Dice Tower Con last night. The Dice Tower Awards nominees were announced earlier this year. Nominees are determined by a panel of roughly 100 people. A list is comprised and people can vote on up to their top 3 choices in any category. Based upon a weighting system determined by a person’s knowledge of any specific category, a list of the top 5 comprises the nominees with top vote getting the winner’s award (Best Game of the Year gets 10 nominees). This year was composed of a very impressive list of games which only goes to show how the board game industry keeps improving year after year. A huge congratulations to all the nominees and winners! For a list of all the nominees you can visit the official Dice Tower Awards page here.
