Tasty Minstrel Games has launched another crowdfunding campaign for an upcoming release. Designed by Mark Major and developed at TMG for more than two years the community now has an opportunity to fund Chimera Station.
In Chimera Station, 2-4 players attempt to build a space station over five rounds in a unique twist on a worker placement game. Each round has three phases, the first and third rounds are familiar to most people who have delved into this genre of game: Placement and Feeding. It’s the middle phase that makes the other two phases vastly more interesting. In the Splicing Phase, prepped workers are upgraded to have extra parts. Claws, leaves, brains, and my favorite, tentacles. The physical components allow you to add up to two additional sections into each of your six workers with interlocking pieces. Extra parts means your workers gain various abilities such as displacing other workers and gaining extra resources.
Following TMG’s recent trend, Chimera Station is available in a DELUXE format which includes upgraded components such as metal coins. There are also a line of stretch goals to upgrade the DELUXE version even more, and add a mini expansion. The Kickstarter Campaign is live now and will go through October 7, 2016. The game is expected to ship in June of 2017, but with the limited nature of the DELUXE product, the time to act is now.
Check out TMG’s Kickstarter Page for more information including reviews, preview videos by Man Vs Meeple, Rahdo, UndeadViking, and Bowers Game Corner. Since TMG hasn’t shared their splicing technology, we were not able to combine Radho and UndeadViking, so you’ll have to watch their reviews separately.
Tasty Minstrel Games would like to announce their current project, Yokohama Deluxe, a new version of Yokohama that includes metal coins and upgraded wooden components.
Yokohama is a game by Hisashi Hayashi in which players take on the role of merchants in the Meiji period, an important era of commerce and international trade in Japan’s history. Players work to gain fame through successful business practices, including building a store, broadening their sales channels, learning a variety of techniques, and responding to trade orders from abroad.
TMG has clearly expressed that they are providing the upgraded components in this deluxe version of Yokohama at cost to backers, and that this will be a limited, one-time opportunity to obtain this deluxe version. For more information and to support this project, visit its Kickstarter page here.
On January 29, 2016, Eagle-Gryphon Games is releasing Vital Lacerda’s classic game of winemaking in a deluxe version, known as Vinhos Special Vintage. This new edition will be bringing new game play and a lot of extras to this very popular and extremely strategic board game. The official press release follows:
Vinhos (Portuguese for ‘wines’) Special Edition is a trading and economic game about wine making. Players are Portuguese wine makers developing their vineyards and producing fine wines to achieve maximum profit.
“Designing a new version of my first game ended up being a very enjoyable and completely different process,” says Vital Lacerda. “After all, I had a game with more than 5 years of play testing by thousands of players around the world. I knew I had to make modifications to the rules and board complexity while at the same time I had to deliver the same deep and complex game players have known.”
This new edition features completely new artwork from Ian O’Toole, an improved set of rules, and an additional, simplified version of the game. To support this second game, Vinhos will feature a double-sided board so both versions – the simplified and the original – can be played. This version also brings new additions: 30 new actions and scoring tiles, a greater number of cellars, wineries and oenologists (wine experts), a new region to play, plus the Advertisers expansion and the Madeira Island expansion. Special vineyards and wineries plus a 5th property round out the Deluxe additions to the game.
Vinhos Special Vintage will be released on Kickstarter January 29th, with a 3rd Quarter delivery date for the US and most of the world. For more information and to support this project, visit its Kickstarter page here.
Game of Thrones: The Card Game second edition debuted with much excitement at Gen Con in August and Fantasy Flight Games is building on that excitement with the first deluxe expansion: Wolves of the North. From the announcement:
In this expansion, House Stark takes the spotlight as they gain new cards to guide your Stark decks in new and unexpected directions. You may use Direwolves to cow and overpower your foes, rush to victory with the aid of House Tully, or draw strength from the Winter itself. Throughout the box, you’ll find new versions of iconic characters like Eddard Stark, Catelyn Stark, Jon Snow, and Arya Stark, alongside characters entering the game for the first time, including The Blackfish, Shaggydog, and Rickon Stark.
Not to be outdone by the Starks, each other faction in the game will also see new cards, as well as the addition of six new neutral plots to be used in any deck. Some of these plots will feature a new keyword: Winter. Many of the new cards interact with these plots allowing players to use the cold of the north to their advantage, chilling enemies in their tracks! Keep an eye out for Wolves of the North in the second quarter of 2016.
There are those who push their luck daily to make another handful of credits and stay ahead of the authorities. These free spirits – the smugglers and spies of the galaxy – are united in their hatred of the Empire’s oppression, and they’re willing to fight to keep their freedom, no matter the odds against them.
Fantasy Flight Games announces its newest deluxe expansion for Star Wars: The Card Game, Imperial Entanglements. This new expansion includes 26 new objective sets, 2 new fate cards, and many new vehicles and characters such as Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, TIE Phantoms, and Grand Moff Tarkin himself.
The new objective sets will include Debt of Honor, a wookie-themed objective that allows you to shuffle your dead or sacrificed Wookiees back into your deck, ensuring that they can return to play later. The Tarkin Doctrine objective helps you restrict the light side’s attacks by forcing the light side player to spend two resources in order to make a chosen attack each turn.
This deluxe expansion is centered around the smugglers, rogues, and spies that have made a name for themselves in the Star Wars universe. This new expansion is set for release in the third quarter of 2015. For more information on this expansion, visit the FFG website here.
