Space Cowboys has announced that the work of Sherlock Holmes is not done yet. The world of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective is expanding again with Carlton House & Queen’s Park in the first quarter of 2018.
The fog creeping its way through the streets of London envelopes you in mist. The streets are lined with gas lit lamps, highlighting the various shops and other establishments. Victorian London is known for its greatness, but within the dark streets, devious acts of crime are committed far too often. Outcries from the beautiful Queen’s Park can be heard, warning all that are within earshot that something is perpetually amiss. Whispers in dark taverns mention the mysterious Carlton House Mansion—the crimes that have been committed inside are both unspeakable and incredibly difficult to solve.
As in each of the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective games, this edition includes 10 cases for you to solve as you enter the world as one of Victoria London’s Baker Street Irregulars. The games plays co-operatively for multiple players to work on the same case together.
The new stand alone expansion includes some of the most rare and long out-of-print expansions from the original game by Ystari. These cases have been updated and revised, correcting errors that existed in previous edition.
Playing the Long Game
Space Cowboys has indicated that the Carlton House & Queen’s Park includes some of the longest cases in the series to date.
Each case provides an introduction but the rest is up to you. Provided with a map, directory, and newspapers, you have the freedom to go wherever you want to chase down clues and solve these mysteries. In addition to the traditional maps of London, Carlton House & Queen’s Park collection provides two new locations to explore. Irregulars can now explore the grounds of Carlton House and inside the house itself, as well as a map of Queen’s Park.
In the Box
Like in previous iterations of the game, boxes will include:
- 10 Case booklets
- Additional resources to aid you in your journey
This release is the third in a series of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective re-releases by Space Cowboys. The first in the most recent editions of the series was Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: Jack the Ripper & West End Adventures released in early 2017. This was followed by Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: The Thames Murders & Other Cases also released in 2017.
“We’re not the only humans left in this town anymore.” Your Dead of Winter colony is about to get neighbors courtesy of the new Warring Colonies expansion from Plaid Hat Games.
The new expansion features a pile of new content that can expand your existing Dead of Winter or Long Night game including:
- 15 new survivors
- 50 new crossroads cards
- 43 new items
- 11 new crisis cards
We were suspicious when they arrived across town and set up camp, but we tried to live in peace. No more. They’ve taken too much from us. Too much that we can’t get back. It’s time for revenge. It’s time for war.
Most of the new content will support a new team variant for the game in which two warring colonies will compete for the same limited resources and power. The new variant will combine both the Dead of Winter base set and the Dead of Winter: The Long Night games. As the two colonies battle against each other they will use a new fighting system. Battle might not always be in the best interest of the colonies however, as joint-colony crisis cards force colonies to cooperate and some also force some level of coercion every round.
Not playing with even players? The new odd-man-out Lone Wolf variant adds chaotic balance as the lone wolf pursues their own secret goals in a den by themselves and carrying out missions that will affect both of the other colonies.
The content for the new variants includes:
- 7 new main objectives
- 2 combat dice
- Battle tactics cards
- Bullet Tokens
- A combat track
The expansion is designed by Colby Dauch and Timothy Meyer for the game which was originally designed by Isaac Vega and Jon Gilmour.
Dead of Winter Warring Colonies can be used to expand either a Dead of Winter base set or Dead of Winter: The Long Night. Both Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game and Dead of Winter: The Long Night will be required to play the warring colonies variant and the lone wolf module.
Dead of Winter was produced as the first Crossroads game from Plaid Hat Games. The game made all three lists in the Dice Tower Best of 2014 List, peaking at number 1 for the People’s Choice list while also being included on Tom and Eric’s lists. In the 2014 Dice Tower awards the game earned Best Game of the Year, Best Co-op Game and Best Game Theming. Dead of Winter earned the title awards for both Most Innovative Design and Most Thematic Game in the 2014 Golden Geek Awards. The title earned an As d’Or Game of the Year nomination, an Origins Award for Best Board Game nomination among many other nominations in 2014.
Everything Epic Games is returning to Kickstarter to bring you the 2nd printing of their recently released thematic cooperative game Secrets of the Lost Tomb, as well as Fate’s Fortune, the newest expansion for the game.
Secrets of the Lost Tomb is a Cooperative, story-driven tile placement game, that plays in about 60 minutes, for 1-6 adventurers who have embarked upon a perilous expedition to uncover the ancient secrets of the Tomb. Each game is built around a different scenario with its own unique boss monster, such as the Pharaoh with the Blue Eyes, the Immortal Rhaz Azul or the Elder Forces of Hera’Thulhu. Over the course of the game, you and your fellow expedition members will explore ancient sites around the world, from the crypts of the Mayans to the ruins of Greece and the beautiful temples of the Orient; fight monstrous beasts; gather powerful relics and above all prepare yourselves to ward off the inevitable awakening of the Primordial Evil.
The Fate’s Fortune expansion introduces the eponymous Fate cards which will send each character on their own secret quest that will allow them to level up during the game (and will also unleash new furies from within the tomb). Using these secret Fate cards, players can also now choose to include the possibility of a Traitor in the game, rather than playing purely cooperatively. The expansion will also add new characters, new scenarios and new monsters to this already jam-packed game.

If there’s one thing watching old reruns of Thunderbirds! has taught me, its every house needs an underground hanger. Or a submarine pen. Preferably both. If you’ve ever wanted to help the Tracy clan in their ongoing secret mission to save human life wherever they can, Matt Leacock has designed the co-op board game for you.
Racing to the rescue from a secret island base beneath the luxurious home of the Tracy family somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean, International Rescue defies government spies and criminals who want the secrets of their incredible machines for their own. To combat this threat, Lady Penelope, International Rescue’s aristocratic English secret agent, and her chauffeur Parker lead a network of agents to uncover those behind the disasters caused by deliberate sabotage.
A criminal mastermind known as “the Hood”, operating from a temple deep in the Malaysian jungle and in possession of strange powers, often engineers events to allow him to spy on the Thunderbird machines with the goal of selling their secrets to the highest bidder.
Is there interest? With 31 days to go in the campaign, the Thunderbirds! Co-operative Board Game has raised £88,086 out of the original £20,000 goal. Part of it might be renewed interest in the classic show. Part of it might be people’s confidence in Matt Leacock’s ability to create an amazing co-op experience. Finally, just a little probably has to do with the glorious 3D plastic miniatures of each Thunderbirds vehicle.
Watching the show, it is evident the stories are more about the vehicles than the people they are saving…so its quite faithful to the original material that so much attention be spent making these models look good. With so many stretch goals unlocked, the game will have not just the Thunderbirds, but models based on each of the pod vehicles (originally just cards), the Ladybird, FAB 2, and even secret Tracy Island itself.
The project is definitely “Go!” with a full production run scheduled and multitudes of shipping options provided for almost every corner of the globe (sorry, Antarctica). And if you don’t want to fund the Kickstarter, this thing is coming to retail too.
The Thunderbirds the Co-operative Board Game will then ship in August 2015 and be released in retail in September to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the cult TV show. The game will feature the detailed plastic models of the iconic Thunderbirds machines and a high octane world full of disasters for players to come to the rescue. You can expect the usual high quality design and components that fans of games produced by Matt Leacock and Modiphius have come to expect.
