Project Elite, designed by Konstantinos Kokkinis and Sotirios Tsantilas, was originally released back in 2016 by Artipia Games and Drawlab Entertainment. It is a co-operative, real-time, speed-dice, tactical, tower-defense-like game and was awarded one of the top games of 2016 by The Dice Tower.
Cool Mini or Not has just announced that they will be producing an updated version of the game in the following press release:
Tuesday, July 24, 2018 – CMON Limited announced today they are producing an updated edition of the widely-acclaimed board game Project: ELITE by designers Konstantinos Kokkinis and Sotirios Tsantilas. Originally released in 2016, Project: ELITE is a unique real-time, cooperative board game like no other.
In Project: ELITE, players are members of the ELITE squad on a mission to stop the invading forces of an alien empire. Stopping the invasion will require players to speedily roll dice as they take part in real-time, 2-minute combat rounds against waves of terrifying enemies. Once the ELITE members take their turn, the aliens will react. The game continues in this fast-yet-tactical series of rounds until the scenario is won or the aliens take the Earth.
CMON’s new edition was developed based on community feedback from the initial release. Players can expect all-new art by Stefan Kopinski, Saeed Jalabi, and Henning Ludvigsen, all-new miniatures by Studio McVey, with personal oversight by Mike McVey, new card designs, new weapons, new ELITE members, new enemies, and more. Beyond the base game, CMON will also introduce expansions and more through a Kickstarter campaign set for Q4 2018.
CMON’s Production Manager, Thiago Aranha recalls, “When Project: ELITE released, gamers loved it. We saw their feedback and knew CMON could take the game to the next level with a new edition that upped the production value to match the high-quality gameplay.”
Project: ELITE will launch on Kickstarter in 2018 and release to retail stores in 2019. More information will be available on CMON.com in the near future!
Fantasy Flight Interactive has announced that the first title they plan to release will be The Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game. Based on the popular co-operative card game released by Fantasy Flight Games in 2011, the game has players participating in cooperative scenario based adventures controlling the heroes of Tolkien’s Middle Earth.
Fantasy Flight Interactive is making the digital version available on Steam in early December to a closed beta group as a single player title. Players can then purchase on the Founder’s Packs to access the full game experience. Founder’s Packs will include additional content, in game currency, and more.
The original game featured a strong bond between both the compelling narrative of Middle Earth, taking place predominantly between the adventure of Bilbo and Frodo, and a revolutionary cooperative gaming system. As one of the most popular early cooperative games players had to work together to defeat the evil Sauron, who was represented by an encounter deck filled with locations, enemies, and other treacheries.
Players in the digital implementation will still control three heroes with 30 card decks based on the four influence spheres – Leadership, Tactics, Spirit, and Lore.
The digital implementation of the game removes much of the maintenance work that players had to manage in the original version. In the new iteration of the game players focus on the Planning and Adventuring phases. The AI will handle playing cards from Sauron’s deck and the responsibilities enemies have in engaging heroes. Players will now get to focus on their own choices rather than game maintenance.
Each scenario includes instructions on win conditions, while all scenarios are lost if the three heroes die or the ever increasing threat level reaches the maximum. With over 100 expansions currently available for the game, Fantasy Flight Digital will have plenty of material to choose from in building and growing the digital universe of the game.

The designers are currently working on the second expansion, The Grizzled: Armistice Edition, which will add a campaign mechanic to the game.
