CMON recently announced that they will be adopting a Minimum Advertised Pricing Policy (MAPP) that will go into effect on June 1st.  This means that all CMON products will have a minimum price that retailers, both online and physical, can advertise their games at.  This move is being adopted as a step to level the playing field between online retailers and brick and mortar stores, with the former typically having lower prices than the latter.  Along with Asmodee and Privateer Press, this is now the third major board game company to take this step.  In addition to this new policy, CMON is changing who they distribute through and so will now be using ACD, Alliance, and Peachstate Hobby Distribution.  Will these steps and changes make for a better CMON and better board game business world?  I hope so.

CMON, Mandoo Games, and Capstone HK have entered into an agreement to be able to publish the worldwide, English language version of the game Banana Bandits.  This fast playing game is all about being the first to get three of the golden banana coins and become the new king of the Banana Bandits Gang.  The game will be played out on a 3D tower that you construct in the box, and has you doing simple actions like move, attack, grab coins, or draw cards.  Fighting is easy and is done with a roll of the dice, with the dice being modified by cards allowing for rerolls and the like.  Manage to grab two coins of different colors you can convert them into a golden banana coin, putting you one step closer to winning.  Once someone hits that mark of 3 coins the game is over, and they are crowned the new king.

The game looks good on the table with an impressive 3D tower and gorilla tokens that hang off the tower.  You can read more about the partnership in the press release below, and look for this game to hit shelves in quarter 2 of 2017.

CMON Limited, Mandoo Games, and Capstone HK Ltd. Partner to Publish English Language Banana Bandits

CMON Limited, Mandoo Games, and Capstone HK Ltd are pleased to announce they have entered into a licensing agreement for the exclusive, worldwide, English language rights to the upcoming game Banana Bandits. This fun, tactile, fast-paced game of ape action is sure to be a great addition to everyone’s collection and draw an eye or two thanks to its unique, 3D tower.

In Banana Bandits, players are vying to become the new leader of the Banana Bandits gang, a group of highly-trained, banana-loving, Gorilla Bandits. To do so, players will literally climb their way to the top of a unique, 3D cardboard tower, fighting with and stealing from other hopeful Bandits. Once a player has stolen enough Gorilla Coins and converted them into 3 Golden Banana Coins, they instantly become the new gang leader and win the game. To steal those coveted Gorilla Coins, the Bandits must attack each other using an intuitive dice system and various cards that will add bonuses during the fight. Each game is fast-paced, lasting around 30 minutes.

Kevin Kichan Kim, owner of Mandoo Games, says, “We’re so happy to work with CMON. We’re fans of their amazing projects and are excited to join in on the journey to bring Banana Bandits to the English speaking market.” David Preti, Creative Director of CMON, says “We’re excited to work with Mandoo Games to bring Banana Bandits to gamers’ tables. It offers a unique experience that is easy to pick up and has a fun presence on the table, like the recently released Potion Explosion. It’s perfect for the ever-expanding family of CMON board games.”

Banana Bandits will include a 3D Banana Bank Tower, 4 sets of Gorilla cardboard figures and tokens, 44 Gorilla Coins, 10 Golden Banana Coins, 8 dice, 40 cards, and 1 rulebook. It supports 2 to 4 players, ages 14 and up, and is due to release in Q2 of 2017.

About Mandoo Games

Mandoo games is a Korean board games publisher and consulting company working with several game studios. Mandoo Games presented Rising 5, Slide Blast, Lucien & Edgar, Sherlock 13 and several other titles at Essen Spiel 2016.

About Capstone HK Ltd

Capstone HK Ltd is a game publisher located in Hong Kong. Capstone has developed several nice HK style games, such as Internal Affairs, Pinocchio and Wooolf!.

CMON and Cranio Creations’ first collaboration, Unusual Suspects, has hits stores and already they are liking the buzz they are getting, so they want to continue the relationship with two more games.  The first game is a Lorenzo il Magnifico, in it “players control prominent families during the Italian renaissance, aiming to become the most influential among the other players. To do so, they must earn victory points by sending the members of their families out to gather resources, gain development cards (representing a multitude of different things, such as new territory, influential people and more), and put those development cards to use. Of course, the families must also pay their respect to the Church or face hard penalties when the time comes.”  The game was showcased at Essen 2016 and was well received and so they will publish it in English with the same art and mechanics.

The second game is an updated and revamped version of the game Council of Four, one that Tom Vasel of the Dice Tower tried to get for the Dice Tower Essentials line of games.

In the Council of 4, players take on the rolls of rich merchants in a prosperous Empire that’s divided into three Kingdoms. The Kingdoms are each ruled by a council of four nobles. Players will do whatever it takes to obtain building permits for their Emporiums within the Kingdoms’ cities. Bribery and political power struggles abound; even the Queen is not above being swayed, overlooking the need for permits from time to time. The player that gains the most points through connecting Emporiums, having the most in a Kingdom’s cities, obtaining permits, or increasing their rank on the nobility track will win the game.

The game also contains a modular board and different options for gameplay are chosen at the beginning, making this a highly varied and replayable game.  While the mechanics of the game remain largely untouched, they have updated the art of the game and included miniatures, because what is a CMON game without minis?  Look for both of these games on store shelves in the second quarter of 2017.

gateway uprising

In yet another market move, CMoN has entered into a partnership with Fishwizard Games to publish their upcoming game Gateway: Uprising.  Gateway: Uprising is billed as an area control deck building game set in a steam punk world where magic exists, but has been all but outlawed.  As described in the press release;

Gateway: Uprising places players into the roles of competing factions of rebellious wizards attempting to re-take their city, one district at a time from the oppressive Chancellor and his regime, who have outlawed magic for everyone but themselves. And although the players’ objective is to expel the City Guard from the Districts, they must also contend with a horde of monsters called the Druegger, whose sole purpose is to destroy the city.

The game has amazing art and will support up to 4 players ages 14 and up.  The release date is currently set for the first quarter of 2017 so we still have some waiting to do before this game is available to buy.  You can read the full press release on CMoN’s website.

zombicide rue morgue

CMoN has been publishing Zombicide for quite a while now, and during that time the branding and IP rights have been with Guillotine Games.  Now that relationship is changing with CMoN acquiring all those rights from Guillotine Games for the Zombicide line.  This allows CMoN to now design and publish Zombicide content apart from Guillotine Games, however, the two companies will still work closely with each other.  Guillotine Games will still be designing other games and will continue to work with CMoN to publish them, so look forward to future titles from the partnered companies.  You can read more about the change on the CMoN site.

Another change for CMoN recently is that they have entered into a partnership with Australian company Good Games Publishing.  With this agreement CMoN becomes their distributor to all French and English countries outside of Australia and New Zealand.  The first games that fall under this new agreement will be the upcoming game Monstrous, slated for release this quarter, and Unfair, which is scheduled for Kickstarter launch August 16th.  This announcement also coincides with Good Games setting up a store in the Indianapolis area, thus setting up for their expansion into the US market.  You can read the press release below for more information and look forward to the wider release of their games through CMoN.

First was Rumble in the House, then the fight was moved underground to Rumble in the Dungeon, now they are back home but the elder gods have joined in Cthulhu in the House.  Gameplay for the game is much the same where you either move or fight, trying to keep your identity secret and be the last one standing.  Like the Dungeon version of the game, this one has a new mechanic added in the form of portals.  What the portals do is allow you to jump around the board quickly, instead of one space at a time, and even alter the outcome of fights.  Can you survive to the end and be crowned the toughest?  Well you will have to wait until GenCon to find out as CMoN will be releasing the game there.
