“Chai” is an immersive game of combining tea flavors to make your perfect blend.
The game is being brought to Kickstarter by a new company Deep Aqua Games.
In “Chai”, step into the shoes of a tea merchant, combining tea flavors to make a perfect blend. Specializing in either rooibos, green, oolong, black or white tea, buy and collect ingredients to fulfill your customer’s orders.
The designers Dan & Connie Kazmaier have created a fantastic community on Facebook, where for more than 6 month everyone had the opportunity to participate in the process of creating the game either by playtesting or providing ideas. Thanks to this strong community the game “Chai” was already funded on Day 1.
The breathtaking game art is from the talented art team: Mary Haasdyk and Sahana VJ. I fell in love with that artwork first time I saw it. According to me, this is one of the most beautiful games ever produced.
The Kickstarter is running from the 4th of December to the 7th of January and will probably unlock couple of stretch goals too. Follow along on Kickstarter or Facebook.

Also coming from AEG is a new Smash Up set titled, Oops You Did It Again.
Smash Up has turned the asylum over to the inmates yet again! After the success of It’s Your Fault, we decided to let the fans choose the factions that would make up the latest set of Smash Up, and they went for some powerful choices! A huge field was whittled down to the top four, and here they are: Cowboys call out opposing minions for shootouts, Samurai face their noble end in battle to bring glory to their player, Ancient Egyptians bury secrets deep in the sands, while the Vikings… well they just take other people’s stuff!
It looks like the fans nailed it this time with some of the best genres from pop culture represented in one expansion box.
Keep an eye out for The Captain is Dead: Lockdown in August and Smash Up: Oops You Did It Again in early September.
Zombicide: Green Horde: No Rest for the Wicked is an expansion to Zombicide: Green Horde that supports 1-6 players and puts you up against new otherworldly enemies. Zombicide: Green Horde was kickstarted in June 2017 and had a highly successful campaign raising over five million dollars. During this campaign as an optional buy you could pick up the full expansion. It now has a retail release planned for those who missed out of the kickstarter.
The zombie plague is not limited to just humans and orcs. All manner of creatures are succumbing to the vile disease and launching an assault against the living. The rats that form into undead swarms are bad enough. Then there’s the ghostly Spectral Walkers that are only damaged by magic. But when there’s a zombie dragon to deal with, that’s a whole other category of terror! To take that out, the survivors are gonna need a bigger crossbow.
The expansion comes with over thirty-five miniatures including a huge dragon figure and is sure to add even more excitement to your game. Zombicide: Green Horde: No Rest for the Wicked, published by Cool Mini or Not, is slated to hit retail during the third quarter of 2018.
Plaid Hat Games are sharing previews of Stuffed Fables every Wednesday until the game’s release. This week Jerry Hawthorne, the game’s designer, shared his experiences bringing the game from concept to completion.
The idea originates from a few years ago. After seeing the Pixar movie, Inside Out, he became obsessed with gamifying it’s premise. He later realized that he didn’t really want to make a game inspired by the movie but rather to create an original story experience. His idea to create a game to evoke an emotional response lead him to think about kids and their stuffed animals which acted as surrogate parents. He then thought of weaving his tale around a little girl and stuffed animals which represented different parts of her personality as she grew up. The players learn who the girl is through the stuffed animals. In order to create this story he needed to break boardgame convention by relaying the experience in the form of a book instead of on a board.
Mr Hawthorne realized this would not be easy:
“Writing a story is tough in its own right, especially one that branches in different directions, but what Colby was proposing was to make each scene in the story fit on a ten by ten inch page. This meant that each story needed to be split into evenly sized chunks, and each chunk needed to fit on the given page. And each page had to not only offer a game experience, but also advance the narrative! Writing like this is incredibly hard, but it’s also a good way to focus your approach.”
The story’s antagonists needed to evoke an emotional response so he based them on anxiety and the things which cause us to lose sleep. This prevented the tale from being too dark and scary. For a detailed account of his experiences you can read the full article on the Plaid Hat Games website.
Expected retail release date for Stuffed Fables is December 2017.
“We’re not the only humans left in this town anymore.” Your Dead of Winter colony is about to get neighbors courtesy of the new Warring Colonies expansion from Plaid Hat Games.
The new expansion features a pile of new content that can expand your existing Dead of Winter or Long Night game including:
- 15 new survivors
- 50 new crossroads cards
- 43 new items
- 11 new crisis cards
We were suspicious when they arrived across town and set up camp, but we tried to live in peace. No more. They’ve taken too much from us. Too much that we can’t get back. It’s time for revenge. It’s time for war.
Most of the new content will support a new team variant for the game in which two warring colonies will compete for the same limited resources and power. The new variant will combine both the Dead of Winter base set and the Dead of Winter: The Long Night games. As the two colonies battle against each other they will use a new fighting system. Battle might not always be in the best interest of the colonies however, as joint-colony crisis cards force colonies to cooperate and some also force some level of coercion every round.
Not playing with even players? The new odd-man-out Lone Wolf variant adds chaotic balance as the lone wolf pursues their own secret goals in a den by themselves and carrying out missions that will affect both of the other colonies.
The content for the new variants includes:
- 7 new main objectives
- 2 combat dice
- Battle tactics cards
- Bullet Tokens
- A combat track
The expansion is designed by Colby Dauch and Timothy Meyer for the game which was originally designed by Isaac Vega and Jon Gilmour.
Dead of Winter Warring Colonies can be used to expand either a Dead of Winter base set or Dead of Winter: The Long Night. Both Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game and Dead of Winter: The Long Night will be required to play the warring colonies variant and the lone wolf module.
Dead of Winter was produced as the first Crossroads game from Plaid Hat Games. The game made all three lists in the Dice Tower Best of 2014 List, peaking at number 1 for the People’s Choice list while also being included on Tom and Eric’s lists. In the 2014 Dice Tower awards the game earned Best Game of the Year, Best Co-op Game and Best Game Theming. Dead of Winter earned the title awards for both Most Innovative Design and Most Thematic Game in the 2014 Golden Geek Awards. The title earned an As d’Or Game of the Year nomination, an Origins Award for Best Board Game nomination among many other nominations in 2014.

If you missed the boat last time it was around, now might be your chance to hop on the updated edition of Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island. Designed by Portal Games’ veritable owner Ignacy Trzewiczek, Robinson Crusoe has players working as a team of shipwrecked survivors trying to make ends meet on an island full of dangerous animals and unpredictable weather.
A description from the BoardGameGeek website:
“ [Players will] be faced with the challenges of building a shelter, finding food, fighting wild beasts, and protecting themselves from weather changes. Building walls around their homes, animal domestication, constructing weapons and tools from what they find and much more awaits them on the island. The players decide in which direction the game will unfold and – after several in-game weeks of hard work – how their settlement will look. Will they manage to discover the secret of the island in the meantime? Will they find a pirate treasure, or an abandoned village? Will they discover an underground city or a cursed temple at the bottom of a volcano? Answers to these questions lie in hundreds of event cards and hundreds of object and structure cards that can be used during the game…”
This new edition of the game will come with:
- Custom wooden pieces for all resources
- Thick cardboard player boards
- An additional 7th scenario
- A completely re-written rulebook
- Coming in a Ticket to Ride-sized box

Are you a fan of castles? Do you enjoy panicking? What about building machines for war? If the answer is yes to any of these three questions, then you’ll be excited for Castle Panic‘s third expansion: Engines of War.
Designed by Justin DeWitt, Engines of War expands on Castle Panic‘s cooperative castle defense game play by introducing an Engineer to the game. The Engineer can shore up your castle’s defenses with Catapults, Ballistas, Barricades, Spring Traps, and Walls! To level the playing field, the monsters can bring along their own contraptions like the Siege Tower, War Wagon, and Battering Ram. Additionally, new monsters such as the Shaman, Breathtaker, and Goblin Saboteurs join your enemies’ ranks to heal your opponents and mess with your hands.
This third expansion can be played with just Castle Panic or be combined with the game’s first two expansions: The Wizard’s Tower and The Dark Titan. The expected release date is November, 2016. For additional information, check out Fireside Games’ website!
Walkers are coming at you from all sides. Your group has handled worse, but you’ve made some questionable decisions and you’re not sure they still trust you. Will they run or fight beside you? WILL YOU SURVIVE???
If you are a fan of AMC’s The Walking Dead, you know how tense things can get when you are in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Cryptozoic Entertainment‘s The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary will simulate those tense moments as you play as some of your favorite characters from the television series, such as Daryl, Glenn, Andrea, and of course, Rick Grimes (“Coral!”). The Kickstarter campaign for this game just launched last week, so you still have time to back it and help the campaign reach all of it’s stretch goals, like more minis…including Shane!
Designers Adam and Brady Sadler (whose previous works include Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition, and Star Wars: X-Wing) bring you this exciting co-op game that puts 1-4 players in situations taken directly from the show against many different enemies–both alive and dead–all with distinct movements and motivations. With the new leadership mechanic each player will get a chance to lead at some point in the game, which can greatly alter the team’s strategy. If players trust the leader, they can utilize some unique abilities; however, if they lose trust and defy the leader, stress and decreased morale can add to the dangers all of the survivors face.
Retail game components will include:
- Over 30 miniatures, including walker figures and survivor figures based on characters from the show
- Character boards and decks for each survivor that reflect their personalities on the show
- Over 200 cards, including Event Cards, Search Cards, and Location Cards
- 12 double-sided map tiles that create memorable locations from the show
- Over 100 tokens
- 10 custom dice
The Kickstarter campaign unlocks even more content, including many more miniatures, cards, and two expansions: “The Killer Within” prison expansion and “What Lies Ahead” farm expansion. So what are you waiting for? Go back this amazing game on Kickstarter now!
