Chip Theory Games has launched a new Kickstarter project, Splice & Dice, for a variety of content offerings in the Too Many Bones universe.

First, there is the Splice & Dice expansion, which requires either the Too Many Bones base game or Too Many Bones: Undertow to play. Splice & Dice introduces a new Build-a-Tyrant option allowing players to customize their own big bad or develop the campaign boss over the course of the adventure based on the type of baddies defeated in encounters and the order in which they are defeated. This exponentially increases the variability of potential Tyrants. Splice & Dice also includes new pre-built Tyrants and hybrid Baddies that count as multiple enemy types.

Second, the campaign offers new content add-ons. Two new Gearlocs are available as playable characters. Dart, who rides a pigadillo, and has a double-sided playmat that can be flipped during battle to change her from a ranged attacker to a melee attacker, as well as changing how her skill dice operate (prototype playthrough video here). The other new Gearloc add-on is the Gearloc Council Internship Program, which is actually four mini-Gearloc mats that operate together. The final new content add-on is the Too Many Bones Trove Chest, which is a giant box with a future-focused design to hold all Too Many Bones content in one Kallax-friendly container, as well as providing new storage solutions for Gearlocs, loot, encounters, and Baddies.

Third, the campaign provides access to a full reprint of all previously published Too Many Bones products. The campaign closes June 14th and anticipates new content delivery in December 2019.

Cloudspire is a MOBA-style tower defense for 1-4 players by Chip Theory Games (CTG), the makers of the Too Many Bones Series. Cloudspire, which is already fully funded on Kickstarter, takes place in the floating realm of Ankar and tells the story of a war to acquire a powerful and rare energy known only as “The Source”.

Players control one of four unique factions in a battle to destroy and steal source energy from their opponents. Every race has their own unique units and heroes as well as the ability to bid and draft mercenaries for hire. The four factions are:

• The Brawen – an industrious, ambitious race of giants
• The Grovetenders – cousin to plant live, forced into the war
• The Heirs – a bird-like race that believes that controlling Ankar’s islands is their birthright
• The Narora – believe that that controlling The Source is their calling

PvP

The main objective in the PvP version is to destroy your opponent’s fortress. Armies are placed either individually or in stacks to conceal powerful units until the last possible moments. Heroes are controlled individually and may join the tide of battle or choose to explore points of interest in search of resources. Heroes can be levelled up to lead armies into battle with advanced and upgraded skills.

As armies and minions approach enemy bases, they’ll need to deal with Spires – powerful defense towers that can be built around the board. Players fight for control of build sites and acquire new spire schematics to build an impenetrable defense and hold off their enemies. Players can even upgrade their home base to unlock new strategies and abilities.

Solo/Co-op

Cloudspire features a full on Solo/Co-op scenario book, full of unique solo setups and a full story narrative to follow along as you move through the game. A variety of base and bonus objectives will make every scenario a unique challenge.

Like other CTG titles, the production value of Cloudspire is planned to be extremely high. Neoprene mats, heavy chips and PVC waterproof cards are hallmarks of CTG games.

Cloudspire will also follow other CTG titles, in its distribution method. After Kickstarter, Cloudspire will only be available directly via Chip Theory Games.

Various pledge levels are available via the Kickstarter, including one for the base game only as well as one with some expansion material and an extra faction. There’s a ton more information on the Kickstarter page and the campaign runs until November 9th, so go check it out.

Chip Theory Games, with designers Adam and Josh J. Carlson, has started a Kickstarter Campaign for the first stand-alone sequel-expansion to their acclaimed 2017 dice builder RPG, Too Many Bones. Too Many Bones hit the gaming world by storm with its gorgeous art, unique dice driven mechanisms and high quality neoprene boards, poker chips, and PVC cards. In Too Many Bones, players roll dice to determine their actions in a series of card driven puzzles and battles, using stats to determine how many and which type of dice they can throw. Additional available dice are bought with experience points, which lead to unique abilities and powers.

The Undertow Expansion adds a new campaign along the river, complete with 2 new characters usable within the new campaign or with the core game. Duster, the shadow assassin, can hide and avoid targeting, and has a large sidekick wolf just for fun. Stanza, the minstrel, plays magical songs on her Luitar, healing her comrades and harming the enemy. Optional buys include the core game, extra neoprene game boards including the 2.0 version of the battle mat, and a new character expansion, Gasket, the Hydromech.

The Kickstarter Campaign for Too Many Bones: Undertow continues through November 9, and is expected to deliver in June 2018.

The first shipment of Chip Theory Games’ cooperative Dice-builder RPG, Too Many Bones, has already sold out! Awarded a 10/10 and the Dice Tower Seal of Excellence, Too Many Bones stock didn’t even last long enough to be offered for direct sale. Chip Theory is currently taking preorders for the second print run on their website.
Critics and gamers alike, including The Dice Tower’s own Mark Burke (The Chubby Meeple), are falling in love with the unique dice mechanics and original fantasy world. Players assume the role of a party of Gearlocs as they attempt to take down one of seven unique Tyrants who have taken up unwelcome residence in the land of Daelore.  New skill dice are unlocked after each successful encounter, allowing you to build your characters in almost endless ways. Don’t like the luck involved in dice games? The game employs a unique Backup Plan mechanic that allows you to put your bad rolls to good use. Store up your “misses” and unleash them for powerful alternate attacks and abilities.
Too Many Bones uses super high-end components, including die-cut neoprene mats, 11.5g chips, and PVC plastic cards to create an experience that looks and feels as great as it plays.  Because of the high manufacturing costs of the game, it is only being produced in small print runs. The second print of 2000 copies will ship in July with an undisclosed number being reserved specifically for sale at GenCon. So the Dice Tower kicked Day 1 off with a bang. For those not familiar with the early mornings of the convention, the doors open to exhibitors at 8am followed, on day 1, to the VIPs at 9am. 10 o’clock welcomes the masses. Mysterium, from Asmodee, seemed to be the big hit- having sold out before 9:20.

IMAG0776One of the big hits was the display of upcoming Mice & Mystics product line games – Tail Feathers. Jerry Hawthorne, designer, was demoing the unique tilt mechanism used for the flying birds. In this sky and land battle game the birds will actually have removable “flyer” minis. Tail Feathers will hopefully be released sometime around, if not at, Essen.

One of my favorite parts of the day was getting to meet the folks over at NSKN. I got to meet with Agnieszka Kopera and Andrei Novac (Designer and Artist along with founders of NSKN) to get a look at the HUGE BOX expansion to Exodus entitled Edge of Extinction. It’s a GORGEOUS expansion to an already wonderful game. You can watch Tom’s review of the revised edition of the base game here. And if that wasn’t already exciting enough, I got a sneak peak at only 1 of 2 copies of Mistfall – a cooperative adventure game hopefully due out at Essen. It’s got some top-notch components and features some beautiful artwork – tons of cards!!

Portal Games had quite a few releases this year including Rattle, Battle, & Loot – a fun, light-hearted pirate-themed game. Also available was the drafting game Tides of Time and the Imperial Settlers expansion Atlanteans.

IMAG0788Sure to be a hit, from Pretzel Games, is Flick ’em Up. In this scenario-driven game, you use dexterity to flick (shoot) opponents and move around the board. An expansion has already been announced that will add ramps and horses. You can watch Tom Vasel’s review here.

Another fun stop was to the Chip Theory Games booth where they had, on display, their Hoplomachus line of products. I got to tell you, the chips are of a VERY high quality and the game play is quite fun. They had their, recently successful Kickstarter project, Origins on display.

If you’re at the convention, don’t forget to visit the Dice Tower booth. Although located at the very back of the hall, it’s definitely been flooded with traffic. You can meet and greet the entire gang first thing in the morning(s). Stop by and pick up any of the various promos on display along with dice towers, t-shirts, play-mats, and tons of other memorabilia.
