Nauvoo Games has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for Illicit Investments, the latest expansion for Stockpile, a popular economic game designed by Brett Sobol and Seth Van Orden which received the Dice Tower Seal of Excellence.

The Illicit Investments expansion adds a new phase to the beginning of the game in which players draft a starting hand of Investment Strategy Cards. During each Action Phase, players then have the opportunity to play one Investment Strategy Card to help “control the chaos of the stock market” by providing a wide range of unique actions.

The expansion also includes a new First Player Card variant in which players can bid for turn order, a new Investor Card, and some upgraded component upgrades such as wooden stock tickers and a 2P reference sheet.

The campaign also has the option for an all-in Epic Edition, which includes the base game plus expansions and promos in one single box, as well as a Cosmic Tier which includes both the Illicit Investments and Continuing Corruption expansions along with 2 promo packs.

According to Nauvoo games, they do not plan to re-print the game any time soon following this Kickstarter campaign, which you can find here.

Nauvoo Games, publisher of the popular Stockpile game, has recently acquired the rights to create a game based on the Reckoners book series by Brandon Sanderson.  There are three books in the series so far and boast “heart stopping action, laugh out loud quips, and some of the most unique superpowers“.  Not much has been revealed in terms of specifics on the game, but Nauvoo Games has said;

The Reckoners board game, designed by Seth Van Orden and Brett Sobol, allows players to take on the roles of the novels’ protagonists and work together to save the world. In The Reckoners board game, players must overcome multiple ruthless and power-hungry ‘Epics’ – the equivalent of supervillains – that each have unique, game-impacting abilities. Players must decide how to resolve these competing priorities together to eliminate epics and ultimately win the game. How, when, and where you act will determine your victory or failure.

About Dragonsteel Entertainment

Brandon Sanderson was born in 1975 in Lincoln, Nebraska. By junior high he had lost interest in the novels suggested to him, and he never cracked a book if he could help it. Then an eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Reader, gave him Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly.

Brandon was finishing his thirteenth novel when Moshe Feder at Tor Books bought the sixth he had written. In 2005 Brandon held his first published novel, Elantris, in his hands. Tor also published four books in Brandon’s Mistborn series, along with Warbreaker and then The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, the first two in the planned ten-volume series THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE. Four books in his middle-grade Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians series were released by Scholastic. Brandon was chosen to complete Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series; the final book, A Memory of Light, was released in 2013. That year also marked the releases of YA novels The Rithmatist from Tor.

Currently living in Utah with his wife and children, Brandon teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University. Brandon is a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author and winner of the prestigious Hugo Award. He also hosts the Hugo Award-winning writing advice podcast “Writing Excuses” with Mary Robinette Kowal, Howard Tayler, and Dan Wells.

There’s only 6 days left to get in on Stockpile, a strategy game that pits auction mechanics with player interaction. Its from designers Brett Sobol and Seth Van Ordon and features the sensational art of Jacqui Davis and Ian O’Toole.

In Stockpile, players act as stock market investors at the end of the 20th century hoping to strike it rich, and the investor with the most money at the end of the game is the winner. Stockpile was built around the idea of imperfect knowledge. No investor knows everything about the stock market, but everyone does know something. This philosophy manifests in Stockpile in two unique ways – insider information and the stockpile.
