Ares Games is joining forces with Spaceballoon Games to distribute the Euro-style board game Brides & Bribes in the United States and non-European countries. Brides & Bribes is a worker placement and resource management board game for 2-5 players. The game is set in Genoa during the Renaissance period where each player assumes the role of one of five families struggling to increase their power and become the new Doge – Lord of the city.
Brides & Bribes uses an innovative hidden worker placement mechanic, which gives players the feeling of being part of a Renaissance Genoa full of intrigue and deception. Using a deck building system, players hire new employees, growing their power during the game.
In each round, players secretly plan to send a family member with the right skills into the Genoese boroughs to perform one of the five possible actions: hire new employees, collect money, get new workers, increase influence points or convince the local Lord that their family is worth a marriage with his beautiful daughter.
Brides & Bribes was created by Andrea Gallazzi, Elisa Lenardi, Pietro Navarotto, and published by Spaceballoon Games. It was originally funded on Kickstarter in late 2016 and shipped to Kickstarter backers in late 2017, but it was not distributed to retail in the USA.
The distribution of Brides & Bribes by Ares Games will start in April 2019.

Sword & Sorcery (also known as Sword & Sorcery: Immortal Souls) was originally released in 2017 and quickly sold out even though it was released with many other critically acclaimed dungeon crawlers that year. Sword & Sorcery is a cooperative, fantasy, dungeon delving board game in which 1-5 players combat the forces of evil, controlled by the game itself. Players control legendary characters recalled from the dead and made immortal by Three Gods, resulting in them being weakened by resurrection, but grow stronger through story-driven quests.
Sword & Sorcery: Ancient Chronicles is a standalone expansion to the original game which sets up a new story cycle and serves as a new starting point for the game. The characters from this game are compatible with the original if players wish to replay it with the newer heroes, or vice versa, if players want to play with the original heroes in this game. The story takes place in the distant past of events narrated in the original game. Sword & Sorcery: Ancient Chronicles is designed by Simone Romano and Nunzio Surace from Gremlin Project (also known for Galaxy Defenders), with art by Mario Barbati, Fabrizio Fiorentino, Phroilan Gardner, and Fausto Gutierrez, and distributed by Ares Games.
The Kickstarter project has a single, Legendary Hero, pledge level which includes the special Kickstarter content, as well as unlocked stretch goals. Its set to end on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018, with expected delivery taking place in December of 2019. Its already surpassed its funding goal with over 1700 backers.
In 1996, Monocle Games with designers Martyn Oliver and Colin Thornton released City of Chaos, one of the first true story telling games to hit the market. And now 22 years later, Ares Games has announced a new edition of this ground breaking classic. In City of Chaos, 1-6 players travel the city of Byronitar, solving mysteries, building their characters, fighting monsters and dealing with random events. The city is built one tile at a time, and together with the random plot and world generator, players are ensured a unique experience every time they play. City of Chaos was also one of the first games to use a look-up book of paragraph stories, a mechanic adopted recently by such masterpieces as Tales of the Arabian Nights, Above and Below, and Near and Far. Finally, players must deduce how to win the game from clues left in the paragraphs they read. You can read the full press release from Ares Games here, and keep an eye out for the new edition of City of Chaos in the second half of 2019.

Ares Games, publishers of hits such as War of the Ring and Sword & Sorcery (but also well known for publishing many war-themed games), announced a partnership with Pendragon Games to distribute titles in North America. They will be starting with Hexamonia and Waterloo. Their official press release follows:
The two companies extend their co-operation partnership to distribution, starting with the Greek-themed “Hexemonia” and the Napoleonic “Waterloo: Enemy Mistakes” board games
Ares Games and Pendragon Game Studio announce they are extending the scope of their partnership, which began in 2016 with the release of the survival horror board game “Last Friday”. Ares Games will also distribute games directly published in English by Pendragon, starting with the epic, ancient-Greece themed “Hexemonia” and the Napoleonic game “Waterloo: Enemy Mistakes.”
Until now, Ares Games has produced and distributed the English version of three games created by Pendragon – the survival horror game “Last Friday”, the new edition of the card game “Stay Away!”, and the just released “Monsters vs Heroes”, a card game of thrilling mash-up of Victorian mystery and horror stories. “Hexemonia” and “Waterloo. Enemy Mistakes” had limited distribution in Europe, but they were never available before in the USA.
Hexemonia is an epic game of expansion and hegemony set in ancient Greece. Players are leaders of mighty city-states competing for supremacy in a relentless struggle for dominance, each fighting in the name of its own patron god. From humble beginnings, they must grow their might and power, gather resources from their holdings and use them to expand their city and curry favor with the gods. And then, use their military and cultural might to overcome their rivals. Hexemonia is a game for 2 to 4 players, with an average playing time of 30-45 minutes.
Waterloo: Enemy Mistakes is a strategic game about the last battle of Napoleon Bonaparte that forever changed the destiny of modern Europe, for 2/3 players, from 13 years old and over, with an average playing time of 150 minutes. The game recreates the clash between the British army, supported by the Prussian army, and the French one. Players fight an immense battle: 3 Commanders in Chief give instructions to the 14 Generals, who leads 141 Units (corps of artillery, foot soldiers and cavalries) on the big battlefield. The game uses a die as a random factor, but the focus of the gameplay emphasizes above all the elements that characterize the commands and the decisions the players must do.

If you couldn’t get enough of the campaign in Sword & Sorcery – Immortal Souls, then the Sword & Sorcery – Arcane Portal expansion allows you to continue the epic campaign. Players travel to the imposing Thunder Mountains after hearing of a cult trying to the end the world (as they’re wont to do). You’ll face new perilous quests, The Hellspawn master enemy, and 15 new demonic enemies. The expansion also includes new items, traps, treasures, events, and enemy powers.
To take on these new challenges you can add new, powerful characters to your Sword & Sorcery campaign. The first two Hero Packs, Onamor (a Chaotic Necromancer or Lawful Summoner) and Victoria (a Lawful Captain or Chaotic Pirate), are due in February 2018. Two months later, Morrigan (Demon Huntress or Witch Huntress) and Ryld (Bard or Blademaster) will see release. These Hero Packs include a Ghost Soul version of their miniatures.
The Ghost Soul Form Heroes pack allows you to replace the miniatures included in Sword & Sorcery – Immortal Souls with their Ghost Soul version when they die. Also included in this pack is a set of 10 double-sided Background Talent cards which allows further customization of your characters based on their experiences prior to their adventuring life.
The Sword & Sorcery – Immortal Souls base game is required to play with this additional content. The game is an epic-fantasy cooperative board game for 1-5 players, aged 12+, in which heroes fight together against the forces of evil (controlled by the game itself) to break the spell that binds their souls. Sword & Sorcery is a game designed by Gremlin Project (who also created Galaxy Defenders) and is published by Ares Games.
