While unsuccessfully Kickstarted in August of last year, Steamboat Gothic Studio is aiming to fund the second time around with the re-launch of their “tile”-laying card game, Biergarten. In Biergarten you are drawing and placing cards to form your festival area, and depending on how you arrange cards will determine the points you get. On each card there are shields that when you match a color on the shield with the color of an adjacent shield you will get a point, two points if both colors on each shield half match. You also get bonus points for matching at least one of each color, lining up same color umbrellas, or if you manage to completely wall in your area. The first person to 15 points triggers the end game round in which everyone gets one more chance to increase their score before the final tally and a winner is declared.
Biergarten looks pretty good and with simple tile laying rules and play it would be a great introduction to this type of game. You can head over to the Kickstarter page to find out more about the game and back for your own copy.
