For over 25 years, Space Marines and their chaotic brethren have been dueling on table tops around the world. From small, lunchtime skirmishes to massive, all-day affairs with vast hordes of units on both sides, many gamers were first introduced to the world of hobby gaming through the world of Warhammer 40,000. Now, players can pursue this same experience as a boardgame with The Horus Heresy: Betrayal at Calth. Not a box starter for Warhammer 40,000, this is a boardgame set in the same universe featuring squads of space marines, both loyal and traitorous, playing through several different missions featuring tactically different gameplay and scenarios. From the feature page:
The Horus Heresy: Betrayal At Calth is a fantastic standalone boxed game of claustrophobic tunnel combat, set during the Word Bearers’ invasion of the Ultramarine world of Calth. Emphasising fast-paced squad-based combat during six exciting missions, it allows players to choose their side and command a force of beautifully detailed Citadel miniatures in a brutal war for survival, during one of the iconic battles of the Horus Heresy.
With a modest collection of miniatures, including over thirty space marines and a Dreadnought, this looks to be a great jumping off point for exploring the hobby of side minis gaming: miniature assembly and painting. Be sure to check out Battling Brushes with Sam and Rob on The Dice Tower YouTube page to get some great tips on painting minis! The Horus Heresy: Betrayal at Calth is available now from Games Workshop.
