Baseball Highlights 2045 – New Card Game by Mike Fitzgerald
American baseball was on its last legs as a spectator sport. Football had become the predominant national pastime — that is until the year 2032, the year baseball decided to revolutionize the game and regain the throne! Starting in 2032, baseball games were shortened to six innings. Pitchers were encouraged to have bionic arm implants to improve their pitching. These cyborgs, or ‘Borgs as they’re affectionately known, were immediately popular and soon ruled the league. In 2041, robotic players were introduced to get more offense back into the game. These robots were similar to designated hitters in that they were used only to bat and did not field. However, recent reports indicate fielding ‘Bots are on the way.
Now in 2045, human players are still in the game and known as Naturals. They are the best fielders by far but are sorely challenged when it comes to hitting and pitching. Some Naturals have learned to hit by swinging before the pitcher starts his windup, which gives them a chance to hit the ball. Although it’s hard for a Natural to get into the league, those who do are popular. Many Naturals have named themselves after the great players of pre-2032 baseball by taking a first and last name borrowed from different star players of the past. The fans love them, and their presence on the team ensures good revenue!
The closing date on Kickstarter is Apr 3 2014, the funding goal for the project is $10,000, and the project has already funded. Pledge $32 get a copy of Baseball Highlights 2045 and all stretch goals. The estimated delivery date is Sept 2014.

Osprey Publishing is expanding its product list with the creation of a dedicated games division. Osprey Games will follow the great successes enjoyed by our miniature wargaming lines with new products and will also eexpand to include board and card games, allowing us to both strengthen and diversify our position in these thriving niche sectors.
We are also recruiting for a Games Developer to edit and project manage these new products.
With the 2008 release of Field of Glory in collaboration with Slitherine Strategies Ltd, Osprey Publishing began to focus specifically on a hobby with which it had always had a very close relationship – miniatures wargaming. While Osprey books had long provided guides for figure painters, scenario writers and wargamers of all stripes,Field of Glory was the first product specifically created for this audience. Hot on the heels of this incredibly successful release came other projects, including the Force on Force modern rules (with Ambush Alley Games) and Renaissance and Napoleonic versions of the Field of Glory rules. More recently, the Bolt Action World War II rules (with Warlord Games) and the Osprey Wargames series of smaller rule books have established Osprey as one of the foremost publishers of wargaming rules.
Long-time gamer and Games Manager for the new Osprey Games division, Philip Smith, said:
‘Osprey and wargaming have always been the proverbial “two great tastes that taste great together”, and the growing range of wargaming products has met with a fantastic reception from gamers. The creation of Osprey Games means that gaming is going to be getting a lot more attention, and I’ve already got some very exciting projects on the drawing board.’
In addition to expanding the existing wargaming lines, Osprey Games is also going to develop board and card games, applying Osprey’s reputation for high-quality artwork to a whole new market, and is set to start recruiting for a Games Developer to manage this side of the division. The board and card game hobby has become increasingly popular in recent years, and, much like wargaming, can be seen as a natural extension of Osprey’s publishing pedigree.
Richard Sullivan, Osprey Publishing’s Managing Director, said:
‘We are very excited about this opportunity to grow our business into another exciting niche where we can provide top-quality product for our customers, old and new alike. Our experience with wargaming rules, our in-house capabilities and some canny recruitment will ensure we’ll be bringing out some great games in the near future.’
We are recruiting a Games Developer to work on this exciting new project. Based in our offices in Oxford – full details are available on our site now! Spread the word if you can think of anyone who would be interested in the role!
In an ancient world forgotten by time, enormous titans terrorize the land. The five tribes have been fleeing from the titans for centuries, but things are about to change. Growing kingdoms pledge to end the reign of terror, determined to take on the titans and make the world a safer place for all. Each kingdom competes to attract the tribes, eager for the strength of the combined peoples, who are now leaving behind old traditions with the hope that the titans can be defeated once and for all.
In The Ancient World, players compete to grow the largest and most influential kingdom by managing citizens, treasury, military and defeating titans. Players take turns sending citizens to take special actions or using military cards to attack titans. Players also purchase Empire cards to add strength and abilities to their kingdom. A kingdom’s influence in the world is measured by sets of tribe banners that it owns. Each Empire card has one or more tribe banners. Tribe banners can also be gained by defeating titans. Players gain victory points for sets of tribe banners. After six rounds, the player with the most victory points from sets of tribe banners wins.
The closing date on Kickstarter is Apr 3 2014, the funding goal for the project is $15,000. This game is offered in two languages US English and German. Pledge $50 or more and get one copy of The Ancient World, 2 Promo Cards, free shipping to a US address. The estimated delivery date is Dec 2014.
