Stronghold Games is proud to announce another Gen Con release, “Diamonds”, by the great designer Mike Fitzgerald.

Diamonds is a trick-taking card game in which players collect Diamonds — not cards bearing that suit – but actual “Diamond Crystals” (acrylic crystals) included in the game. What makes the game of Diamonds different from other trick-taking card games is that when you cannot follow suit you get a “Suit Action” based on what suit you do play. Suit Actions are also taken by the winner of each trick, as well as at the end of a full Round of play.

diamonds cards

Suit Actions enable players to take Diamond Crystals from the general Supply, moving them to their Showroom (where they may score 1 point) or to their Vault (where they will score 2 points). The Vault is the secure area, but the Showroom is vulnerable to theft by the other players.

In addition to the 135 Diamond Crystals (in 2 sizes and colors), the 6 player Vaults, and the 6 Player Aid cards, Diamonds includes a deck of 60 Playing Cards, numbered 1-15 in the standard four suits. These cards are illustrated in an Art Deco style, and printed using metallic gold and silver inks on rich vibrant background colors. Diamonds is more than just another trick-taking card game for its great gameplay, gorgeous printing, and exceptional components.

The retail street date for Diamonds, the first game in the new “Pocket Line” for Stronghold Games, is late August/September 2014. The game will be officially unveiled at Gen Con in Indianapolis, IN in August. Diamonds will go on preorder on the Stronghold Games website approximately 2 months before the street date. Please watch the Stronghold Games website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, and Newsletter for updates.

“We are pleased to be publishing Diamonds”, said Stephen Buonocore, President of Stronghold Games. “Working with the great Mike Fitzgerald, designer of Wyvern, the Mystery Rummy Series, and developer of Pokemon to name just a few, has been a goal of ours for years. We are excited to be working with Mike on this project.”

“When I first discovered Stronghold Games, I was in awe of the attention to quality in both components and gameplay”, said designer Mike Fitzgerald. “I knew I wanted to do a game with them. I am very happy that I have found a home for Diamonds with such a great company.”

Planes puts you in the role of a group attempting to push your way through a crowded airport to reach your plane before takeoff. Other players’ families or groups, as well as neutral travelers, will cause all sorts of congestion in the terminal and may keep you from boarding.

With cards that affect play and allow bonus scoring, in addition to variable airport maps, Planes is the next phase in global travel from AEG, publisher of Trains.

Last week on their Facebook page, they posted:

Here’s your first look at the cover of Planes, coming this fall from AEG as part of our new “Destination Fun” line, featuring Trains, Planes,… and possibly others in the future.

for the crown expansion
The world is growing.
New frontiers are being explored, and powerful discoveries being made. One can sense the excitement in the air; it is a time of new ideas and expanding horizons. Visionaries chart courses that recently would have been unthinkable. Even common folk are pulling up their stakes and setting out as brave explorers, hoping for a chance at fame and riches.
But bravery is not enough today; traditional methods no longer suffice for victory. The royal contenders are becoming more scholarly, hiring magisters where once they sought bureaucrats. Rumors hint at bandits being hired to pick apart their opponents’ less-flexible traditional armies.
The world is growing. We must grow with it, or disappear in the shadows of greater men…
The second expansion to For the CrownThe World is Round introduces several new units with the ability to move in a cylindrical fashion – moving off the edge of the board and re-appearing on the other side. Rush your opponent with the vicious Raider, and command your troops with the Khan. Take charge of the battlefield and utilize maneuvers that will make your opponent’s head spin with The World is Round!

CAMEL UP, ISTANBUL & ROKOKO nominated by the Spiel des Jahres

Pegasus Spiele Online recently posted a press release where they announced that Camel Up has been nominated for the Spiel des Jahres, Rokoko and Istanbul have been nominated for the Kennerspiel des Jahres, and Love Letter and Guildhall have been given recommendations:

camel up

Friedberg / Berlin, May 19th 2014: Early this morning the nine-member jury “Spiel des Jahres” nominated this year’s Spiel des Jahres (game of the year) and the Kennerspiel des Jahres (expert game of the year) and released a list of recommendations for both categories. One of the games nominated for the Spiel des Jahres is CAMEL UP (eggertspiele) by Steffen Bogen. ROKOKO (eggertspiele) by the designer trio Matthias Cramer, Louis Malz and Stefan Malz is nominated for the Kennerspiel des Jahres. Also nominated in this category is ISTANBUL by Rüdiger Dorn. The card games LOVE LETTER by Seiji Kanai and GUILDHALL by Hope S. Wang received recommendations from the jury.

With the nominations and recommendations Pegasus Spiele’s success story concerning the “Spiel des Jahres” continues: After the nominations of PANDEMIE (Matt Leacock, 2009), IM WANDEL DER ZEITEN: DAS WÜRFELSPIEL – BRONZEZEIT (Matt Leacock, 2010) and STRASBOURG (Stefan Feld, 2011) and the award “Kennerspiel des Jahres 2012” for VILLAGE by Inka and Markus Brand, this year for the first time three games of Pegasus Spiele are nominated at once.

“We put a lot of work in our games and we are very pleased that this work is reflected in the numerous nominations in recent years” says Karsten Esser, one of the two CEOs of Pegasus Spiele. Andreas Finkernagel, the other CEO of Pegasus Spiele, adds enthusiastically: “We are thrilled to be nominated with three games this year and with two more games on the recommendations list. This is already an incredible success for us. Many thanks to our editorial partners eggertspiele and our editorial team for their outstanding work!”

The Spiel des Jahres is the biggest and most important games award worldwide, granted annually since 1979. Its goal is to provide guidance particularly for family gamers in the ever growing gaming market. Since 2001 the Kinderspiel des Jahres (children’s game of the year) is also awarded regularly. With the Kennerspiel des Jahres a third award, aimed at more experienced players, joined the “Spiel des Jahres”-awards in 2011.
